Christmas in Luss
This is our first Christmas since the doors reopened, and we have spent a long time thinking about how to spend it. Here is the shape of the season, from the last Sunday in November through to the first morning of the new year.
The Luss Christmas Fair
The season opens with the Fair, in our event space, eleven until four. Every donation on the day goes to St George's School in Ethiopia.
The Cosy Menu
Our cosy menu runs the whole month, with festive specials changing every week. And there may well be a wreath making class or two along the way, with everything cut on the estate that morning.
Christmas at the Arms
Christmas Eve. You will be met by a choir when you arrive, and a drink will already be poured. Dinner is in the pub, unhurried, and then the short walk down through the village to our Christmas by Candlelight String Orchestra in Luss Parish Church. The carols everybody knows first, then the music from the films. Afterwards, back up the road for warm mince pies and mulled wine in The Gathering.
Christmas Day. Something hanging on your door in the morning, left by Father Christmas himself. He does visit coaching inns. Then dinner with all the trimmings, board games through the afternoon, and a drink or two in The Estate Map Room.
Boxing Day. A slow breakfast, and no reason to hurry it. Then out in the four wheel drive, up into the hills where the road gives out, across forty-five thousand acres, and back down before the light goes.
The Days Nobody Can Name
That stretch where you genuinely do not know what day it is. We will keep the fires on and a drink in your hand, and ask nothing of you at all.
If you want more than that, take the four wheel drive out, or a boat on the loch, or a whisky or cocktail tasting. Or simply sit by the fire with a good book. We will see to the rest.
Hogmanay
The biggest night of the year. Arrive on the thirty-first to a drink in your hand, sit down to Hogmanay dinner with all the trimmings, then take yourself to The Estate Map Room to see the year in. There is a ceilidh too, if a ceilidh is what you are after.
New Year's Day begins with a mimosa or two over breakfast, and then the four wheel drive, if you are up to it.
