Luss, the Gateway to the Highlands
Luss sits on the west shore of Loch Lomond, at the point where the lowlands give way to the Highlands. It is the last village before the road north opens out, and that is the whole appeal of it. Close enough to reach without making a day of the journey, far enough that you know you have arrived somewhere.
Everything Is Closer Than People Expect
Forty-five minutes from Glasgow city centre. Thirty from the airport, which means you can land in the morning and be looking at the loch by lunchtime. Two hours from Edinburgh. And Glencoe, which most people treat as a trip of its own, is ninety minutes up the road.
So you can use us as the base for the whole of the west, and a good many of our guests do exactly that.
Or You Need Not Leave At All
The estate runs to forty-five thousand acres, and very nearly everything worth doing here happens on it. That is the part people do not expect. You arrive thinking of Luss as a starting point, and find there is more here than two or three days will hold.
- Up into the glens by four wheel drive, to the places where the road gives out.
- Out across the loch by speedboat, landing on one of Loch Lomond's islands.
- Wreath making in The Gathering, from what was cut on the estate that morning.
- Wellness weekends on the houseboat, out on the loch before anyone else is up.

- Clan Colquhoun history stories told by the fire.
- Village walks through Luss, the church and the graveyard.
