The Island Compass
■ Sir Ivar Colquhoun ■
As well as being a celebrated chieftain, Sir Ivar Colquhoun was also an accomplished sailor and boating enthusiast.
This much loved compass must have travelled with him across the waters as he navigated his way during his venture around all the islands of the Outer Hebrides.
Sir Ivar’s passion for sailing was such that he was Chair in Scotland of the Prince of Wales Sea Training School — and in his final journey, his coffin was transported one last time by boat across the Loch he loved, onwards to Luss pier in a fitting tribute.
