The Curious Collar

A woman of many passions and speedy pastimes, Fiona Colquhoun (Lady Arran) was passionate about badgers.

Along with her husband Arthur ‘Boofy’ Gore, who campaigned for their protection, she kept a whole troop or ‘cete’ at her home on Inchconnachan Island, where legend has it that the couple had to wear wellies indoors to prevent their feet being nibbled.

Such was their devotion that their Rolls-Royce bore a customised badge — of a badger, of course — and she would often make a curious sight when walking her favourite badger ‘Susy’ along the village streets.
