Sir Humphrey Colquhoun emerged from one of the most turbulent chapters in the clan's history, inheriting the Lairdship at just ten years of age before coming of age during the upheaval of the Scottish Reformation.

As he assumed leadership, Sir Humphrey secured lands across Glasgow, Stirling and the islands of Loch Lomond, strengthening the influence of Clan Colquhoun and anchoring its authority firmly within the landscape of Luss.

His life, however, became defined by bitter rivalry with Clan MacFarlane. Legend tells that an affair with the MacFarlane chief's wife sparked one of Scotland's most infamous clan feuds, culminating in the grisly tale of Sir Humphrey's severed manhood being presented to her for breakfast the following morning.

Whether embellished through generations of retelling or rooted in fact, the story captures the extraordinary brutality, pride and vengeance that shaped Highland life during the sixteenth century.

Sir Humphrey's own life ended at Bannachra Castle, where betrayal proved fatal. A servant's torch revealed his position on a staircase before an arrow struck through a narrow slit, a shot long rumoured to have been fired by his own brother. His story remains one of the clan's darkest and most enduring legends.
