This blend of curiosity and determination led him to the Thames, where he founded the Marine Police — a bold and controversial experiment in prevention rather than reaction.

Though initially met with hostility, the force endured, its principles later informing Robert Peel’s Metropolitan Police reforms. Analytical yet driven, grounded in Scottish enterprise and unafraid to live life fully, Patrick Colquhoun remains a figure of remarkable innovation.
