Home of the Luss Highland Games
The Luss Games Field is home to the Luss Highland Games. Established in 1875, the historic event features traditional heavy athletics including the iconic Caber Toss, bagpiping, and Highland dancing, with the Chief of Clan Colquhoun traditionally serving as the Games Chieftain. Competitors at the Luss Games also tackle a gruelling open-country hill race that takes them from the arena floor to the summit of the rugged Luss hills overlooking the Loch.
Uniquely Picturesque
The field is uniquely picturesque, bounded by the River Luss on one side and the sparkling waters of Loch Lomond in the background.
The Annual Clan Gathering
The Luss Games Field also serves as an annual focal point for Clan Colquhoun, whose historic family seat, Rossdhu House, is located just a hundred yards away. The Clan’s Highland Gathering has taken place annually since 1875.
A Monumental Tribute
Look out for the memorial cairn which stands at the entrance to the Games Field, erected in honour of Sir Iain Colquhoun, the 7th Baronet of Luss. Sir Iain was a central figure in preserving Scottish heritage and was the co-author of the acclaimed 1927 book “Highland Gatherings: Being Accounts of the Braemar, Northern and Luss Meetings”. He served as Chief in the early 20th century and helped formalise and celebrate the traditions of the Clan Gatherings.
